Sixteen-year-old Rinn Jacobs has secrets: One, she’s bipolar. Two, she killed her grandmother.

After a suicide attempt, and now her parents' separation, Rinn and her mom move from California to the rural Ohio town where her mother grew up. Back on her medications and hoping to stay well, Rinn settles into her new home, undaunted by the fact that the previous owner hanged herself in Rinn's bedroom. At school, her classmates believe the school pool is haunted by Annaliese, a girl who drowned there. But when a reckless séance goes awry, and terrible things start happening to her new friends—yet not to her—Rinn is determined to find out why she can’t be "touched" by Annaliese...or if Annaliese even exists.

With the help of Nate Brenner, the hunky “farmer boy” she’s rapidly falling for, Rinn devises a dangerous plan to uncover the truth. Soon reality and fantasy meld into one, till Rinn finds it nearly impossible to tell the difference. When a malevolent force threatens the lives of everyone she cares about--not to mention her own--she can't help wondering: who should she really be afraid of?

Annaliese? Or herself?

And now for the book's trailer!

The cover for this one is really pretty, and it has a great synopsis. I'll have to talk dad into getting this one for me. (Bonus: Title starts with a U, which I really need for ABC challenges!)

After sixteen-year-old Jules has her baby, Zoe, it doesn’t matter anymore that her mother thinks she’s a drama queen, or that her father left them years ago, or even that Zoe’s father is gone, too. She and her baby make a family now; she doesn’t need anyone else in the world except Zoe. Though it's tough being a new mom, balancing Zoe’s needs with working at the Toyota factory and thinking about how to finish school, Jules is sure she’ll figure it out. Still, she wonders, why can’t anyone be happy for her and Zoe? And why does her mom refuse to believe that Zoe's real?

Book trailer:

The cover grabbed me first, I must admit, but the synopsis really pulled me in. Now i really want to know what the deal is with Jules's mom.

On the Shelves: The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse

Hey everyone! I've decided to make a new "meme," sort of. Every week or every other week, I will feature a book or two that came out/are coming out that week. I will try to always post On the Shelves on Wednesdays for right now, but there may be a few stray posts.

The goal with these posts is to showcase books that have come out, but aren't always at the front of the headlines, if you know what I mean. There will be times, however, that books everyone is talking about will be featured, but I'll try not to do that too often.

Let me know how you like these posts!

Yesterday Lisa M. Stasse's debut YA novel, The Forsaken, went on shelves! Here's a little bit about it:

The Forsaken (The Forsaken, #1) by Lisa M. Stasse
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
384 pages (hardcover)

Buy It: The Book Depository | Amazon | Barnes & Noble
A thought-provoking and exciting start to a riveting new dystopian trilogy.

As an obedient orphan of the U.N.A. (the super-country that was once Mexico, the U.S., and Canada), Alenna learned at an early age to blend in and be quiet—having your parents taken by the police will do that to a girl. But Alenna can’t help but stand out when she fails a test that all sixteen-year-olds have to take: The test says she has a high capacity for brutal violence, and so she is sent to The Wheel, an island where all would-be criminals end up.

The life expectancy of prisoners on The Wheel is just two years, but with dirty, violent, and chaotic conditions, the time seems a lot longer as Alenna is forced to deal with civil wars for land ownership and machines that snatch kids out of their makeshift homes. Desperate, she and the other prisoners concoct a potentially fatal plan to flee the island. Survival may seem impossible, but Alenna is determined to achieve it anyway.

Now check out this awesome trailer for the book!

I have to say, I don't usually like too many book trailers, but this one is super intriguing. I'll be looking out for this one when we go out of town this weekend!
